Real World Applications of Hioki Memory HiCorders, Memory HiLoggers and Power Quality Analysers
June 5, 2009Power Company Applications for the Hioki 8860-50 + Hioki 8961:
Uses the 8860-50 Memory HiCorder for long-term data collection of power characteristics when customer claims are received. The Hioki model was chosen because of its capability to measure up to 1,000 volts when combined with the 8961 High Voltage Unit.
Large Power Company Applications of the Hioki 8861-50 and 8961:
At several large power companies, the Memory HiCorder 8861-50 is used together with the High Voltage Model 8961 for measuring relay timing at transformer stations and plants. With the introduction of the 8961 High Voltage Unit, the facilities maintenance department may also investigate methods to improve maintenance procedures. The 8861-50 and 8961 are used mainly for monitoring motor output waveforms and to analyze the load of the water level control at the plant. Voltage sag at the controller for 347/600V load tap switching of large transformers can now be monitored together with the control signal using the 9321-01, which provides enhanced convenience to this type of user.
Research and Development Facility Use of the Memory HiLogger 8423:
The HiLogger’s capability to conveniently record the output signals from multi-point temperature and humidity measurements as well as from ozone density meters is highly desirable for many environmental and solar research facilities.
QC Departments for Medical Lighting Manufacturers Use of the Hioki 3196 Power Quality Analyzer:
Medical lighting devices require use of a specialized light source and before its service life comes to an end the device becomes weak, so the user will request inspection of the light. The cause of this deterioration may be noise from other medical equipment or just power quality problems. The Model 3196 is used to analyze possible fluctuations in the power supply.
Server Maintenance Applications using the Hioki 3196:
The surge in power demands and increase in inverters create frequent power supply problems. Fluctuations in the power supply are a particular source of concern since they could negatively affect the servers. Use of a 3196 Power Quality Analyzer to monitor power supply fluctuations. Increase efficiency in locating the cause of faults in servers with the Hioki 3196 as it simultaneously records anomalies and their resulting waveforms.
Hospital Usage of the Hioki 3196:
Hospitals use the Hioki 3196 Power Quality Analyzer to determine the cause of medical instrument malfunctions related to power anomalies (momentary power drop outs). Measurement results using the 3196 have proven useful in developing improved procedures.
Solar Energy Research (Photovoltaic) Applications for the Hioki 3196:
Used to conduct measurements of the following quantities in the development of solar power generation systems.
1. Continuously recorded parameters: voltage, RMS voltage, active power, reactive power, frequency, total harmonic voltage distortion (THD), harmonic RMS voltage, and voltage imbalance.
2. Recording at start-up: instantaneous voltage and current values (by triggering)
With photovoltaic systems located at different sites the use of one 3196 at each site provides synchronous measurement and automatic data collection capabilities by using the GPS Box option to provide these capabilities and to avoid timing gaps in synchronized measurements.
Uninterruptible Power Supply Manufacturers Usage of the Hioki 3197:
Manufacturers of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) often receive reports of malfunctions from their customers, yet when their equipment is tested no problems are found. The Hioki Model 3197 Power Quality Analyzer is used for its ability to capture events such as voltage dips, swells, instantaneous interruptions, as well as spike noise, and is able to clearly show the cause of the malfunction. The Hioki 3197 is very popular for its low cost and quick setup.
