How can I upgrade firmware or retrofit options on the R&S CMU200?

The Rohde & Schwarz CMU200 mobile phone and radio tester has been a production workhorse over the last 17 years, with thousands of units sold and installed worldwide in most any reputable EMS (Electronics Manufacturing Services) company production line. I have personally seen hundreds of these communication testers in factories across Asia, operating smoothly and testing handheld products relentlessly, with minimum problems and downtime. Some fine German engineering was put into this test solution and it certainly shows based on our experience and customer acceptance with this particular R&S model number.

Regarding Calibration services, what type do you need?

We receive requests for NIST calibration on a daily basis. In the USA there are currently two national standards for calibration laboratories, the Z540-1 and the ISO/IEC 17025.

A NIST traceable certificate means that the test equipment tested was not compared to the NIST Standard Reference Material (SRM). It means it was tested against another piece of equipment that has previously been compared to the NIST SRM.  The second item tested would be traceable to the NIST SRM if the proper paperwork is maintained by the calibration lab issuing the NIST Certificate of Compliance.

What should I do when I have a problem with a piece of test equipment?

Before you pick up the phone, send an email or ask a coworker or vendor for help, here are some common sense tips for initial diagnosis. Please do this before you call your vendor or manufacturer for a Return Authorization Number. But be sure not to open anything up or break a calibration seal as that may void your warranty if you have any remaining.

Here is how you extract the Iconfig configuration file from the Agilent 8960 series if you currently own an E5515C and are looking to sell it or trade it in to us.

First you need to install the 8960 config reader. Click the link below to download.

Then you need to plug the 8960 into your local LAN network port, or one of your router ports.

Then you need to give the 8960 an IP address, like 193.167.0.100 or whatever is not currently in use. Use the ‘setup’ and/or ‘config’ buttons until you find one that lets you edit the network settings.

You might have to put the subnet mask and the gateway settings too. in too. Just look at the network settings of whatever computers you are using there if you are not sure what those should be set to.

Example settings:

So you want the 8960 on your network on a different ip address.

Then you fire up the config software and type in the IP you had just put into the machine

Once you are connected, you want to click on ‘mode’ and then ‘open iconfig’

And you should be able to get the file from there.
